American Arab Professional Network names Beaumont recipient of Champion of Diversity Award

The American Arab Professional Network, part of the American Arab Chamber of Commerce, honored Beaumont Health System with its 2014 Champion of Diversity Award at its May 14 “Celebrating Success” banquet in Dearborn.

Says Ali Dagher, American Arab Chamber of Commerce board chairman, “We created the Champion of Diversity Award to recognize and commend organizations, like Beaumont Health System, for its support of diversity and inclusion in the workplace. I was honored to present this prestigious award to Beaumont’s CEO Gene Michalski.”

“On behalf of Beaumont Health System and its more than 15,000 employees, we appreciate this special recognition by the American Arab Professional Network and the American Arab Chamber of Commerce,” says Michalski. “At Beaumont, we know that diversity is not only the right thing to do, but research shows that fostering different perspectives leads to better decisions and is key to our organization’s success.”

Since 2003, Beaumont Cancer Institute’s Minority Outreach Program has conducted more than 50 education and health screening events for hard-to-reach, vulnerable populations, including the African American, Arab/Chaldean, Native American, Hispanic/Latino and Southeast Asian communities. These programs have reached more than 10,000 patients in Metro Detroit. Last year, it was recognized as a “best practice” by the American Hospital Association.

Adds Michalski, “Our employees and physicians embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion. So, this honor is the result of their collective efforts. Thank you for this extraordinary honor.”
