Beaumont Health System recognized as top performer for quality by Joint Commission

All three Beaumont Health System hospitals have been recognized as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States. The Beaumont Hospitals in Grosse Pointe, Royal Oak and Troy were recognized in The Joint Commission’s annual report “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety,” for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance.

The Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for improving performance on evidence-based interventions that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions. The Beaumont hospitals were recognized for performance excellence for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

This is the second consecutive year that Beaumont Health System’s three hospitals have been recognized as top performers by The Joint Commission. Only 712 hospitals have achieved the Top Performerdistinction for the past two consecutive years.

Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe has been recognized as a Top Performer for four consecutive years.

“This achievement demonstrates the Beaumont team’s focus on providing safe, effective care with positive outcomes through evidence-based processes and interventions," says Sam Flanders, M.D., executive vice president of Quality, Safety and Clinical Effectiveness, Beaumont Health System.

To be a Top Performer, hospitals had to meet three performance criteria based on accountability measure data for 2013, including:

  • Achieving cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures;
  • Achieving performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 denominator cases; and
  • Having at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95 percent or above.

“Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care. I commend the efforts of the Beaumont team for its excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions,” said Mark R. Chassin, M.D., president and CEO, The Joint Commission.
