Beaumont offers a variety of services to provide for the spiritual needs of our Jewish patients. Ask a nurse to contact the Spiritual Care department if you or your family would like further assistance. Every effort will be made to meet your needs.

Spiritual Care Services for Passover

April 10 - 18, 2017

All services will be broadcast only over Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak channel 44.

Conservative, Orthodox and Reform rabbi chaplains are available to provide spiritual and emotional care during your hospital stay.

Kosher Food

Beaumont offers kosher meals for patients upon request. Individually wrapped kosher snacks are also available. For assistance, call Nutrition Services at 248-898-9898 (or extension 89898 within the hospital) or ask your nurse.

Kosher sandwiches and snacks are available for purchase in the Mackinac Dining Room. Look for the kosher refrigerator near the cashiers.

Special Pantries

Three kosher pantry cabinets sponsored by Detroit Ahavas Chesed Bikur Cholim are available at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. These cabinets contain grape juice, Kiddush cups, Havdalah kits, matzo, gefilte fish, snacks, and tallis, Siddur, Chumash and Tehillim.

  • Emergency Center pantry. Ask your nurse or the Patient Representative to access the cabinet.
  • Family Birth Center pantry, 3rd floor, South Tower.
  • Sacristy pantry, 3rd floor, Central Tower. Ask a chaplain or Spiritual Care volunteer to access the cabinet.


  • A Sabbath Service is broadcast on closed-circuit television channel 44 on Fridays at 4:30 p.m.
  • Electric Sabbath candles for use during your Sabbath stay may be requested from the Jewish volunteers, a chaplain, or the Spiritual Care Department. Our Jewish volunteers collect these candles on Sundays.
  • If you would like to be added to the list of patients who wish always to receive Sabbath candles when hospitalized, call the Spiritual Care Department office at extension 10239 (248-551-0239) weekdays between 8 and 5 p.m.
  • Grape juice for Kiddush, Havdalah kits, and special "Sabbath-in-a-Box" kits are available from the kosher cabinets.
  • The Doctor's Entrance, located on the west side of the Central Tower, is a Sabbath-friendly manual door. The door is open can be used as an entrance from 5 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., but may be used as an exit at any time.
  • Bathroom lights in the South Tower patient rooms have sensors that automatically turn on the light upon entering the bathroom. Please ask your nurse or unit secretary to request Maintenance to bypass the sensor.

  • Kosher for Passover patient meals
  • Haggadas, matza and grape juice for Seders (also in the kosher cabinets)

The following are also available upon request to a Jewish volunteer, chaplain or by calling the Spiritual Care Department at extension 10239 (248-551-0239):

  • Electric menorahs for Hanukkah
  • Megillah reading for Purim
  • Shofar blowing for Rosh Hashanah

A Sukkah is placed adjacent to the Mackinac Dining Room patio during the feast of Sukkot.

Spiritual Care Volunteers

Jewish volunteers usually visit patients on Fridays and before Jewish holidays.
