Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric surgery is another option for those who qualify for procedures other than the medical weight loss program. It’s a comprehensive system that can help you lose weight and keep it off. Supported by a team of medical, surgical, behavioral, nutritional and exercise experts, the program offers a multidisciplinary team approach – before, during, and after bariatric surgery.

There are multiple reasons why Beaumont’s bariatric surgical procedures are exceptional with helping you take charge of your weight. The program:

  • is certified by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program as a Comprehensive Bariatric Center (Grosse Pointe, Royal Oak and Troy)
  • is supported by surgeons who have performed thousands of minimally invasive bariatric procedures since the program began in 2001
  • has lower than the national average mortality and complication risks
  • is available at three convenient locations in our Grosse Pointe, Troy and Royal Oak hospitals

What our bariatric surgery program offers

The Beaumont bariatric surgery program is different from other weight loss surgery solutions. We focus on patient support during the entire process, including post-surgery, because we want to make sure that you are successful in your weight loss endeavors. The program is offered through the Beaumont Weight Control Centers in Canton, Royal Oak, Rochester Hills and St. Clair Shores and surgery is performed at one of the three hospitals.

Before bariatric surgery, a patient will receive a thorough preoperative assessment of medical conditions, fitness level, nutrition habits and psychological status. Once the surgery is complete, the patient continues to receive support and care. Patients are provided with:

  • nutritional instruction
  • medical follow-up
  • support groups
  • cooking and nutrition classes
